On buying a Probiotic

When I began thinking of buying a probiotic I thought about going to either Target or CVS. To be honest, the reason is because those were the stores that I was already doing errands at this week. I decided to look for them at CVS as I was going to be spending longer in that store and just doing a return at Target.
When I entered CVS I expected to find the probiotic supplements by the vitamin supplements. I knew they would be in the pharmacy section of the store rather than any other place. I did find the probiotic supplements in the vitamin supplement section. They were interspersed with the vitamins by brand randomly, but there was also a small, non-labeled section of probiotic supplements. It would have been much easier to find if there was a sign specifically for probiotics rather than having to hunt for them in the vitamin section.
The probiotics did not seem to be organized in any way. It would be easier if they had been. It was not clear if there were different types of probiotics or not. Nothing caught my eye except for the word probiotics because that is what I was looking for. I did not feel that there was a wide variety available to me. If I had not been needing to buy something at a store this week I would have ordered a probiotic online as I feel there is a wider selection.
I ended up buying the ProNutrients Probiotic because it was it was made by the makers of Centrum which is a company I am familiar with. I also chose this product because it was a flavorless powder that I could place in my protein shake without having ANOTHER pill to take.

Overall, this was a positive experience because I am getting to try a probiotic supplement for the first time. However, I do wish there was a larger selection and that the probiotic supplements had been easier to find as well as a larger selection available.

Blog Post 2

My associations with the word probiotics are just that they should be taken when one takes antibiotics. Although I have to be honest and say that I never have. I had heard the word a time or two in the past but really started thinking about it when one of my friends had a baby and was suffering from thrush. It seems to be an antibiotic resistant strain and she is still suffering from thrush two months later. This friend was talking about how she should have taken probiotics when she first started taking antibiotics and she would make sure she and her family always did from now on.

Probiotics help to keep the good antibodies alive and flourishing in the body and are especially important when one is taking an antibiotic that is targeting all antibodies unintentionally.

Probiotics help one’s body and especially one’s digestive tract. They can have a profound effect on one’s life and emotional well-being as the person begins to feel better and healthier.

When I knew that I was going to be participating in the study and received the email that said we would be asked to buy some probiotics I did look up to see if it would be safe to take while pregnant. I looked the information up online at a few trusted baby sites I have gotten information from in the past such as babycenter.com.

I was not really aware of probiotic yogurt/foods but I have been told in the past to make sure the yogurt I buy has live cultures in it. I don’t really know much more than that except for “it is good for you.”

I am looking forward to trying the probiotic supplements. I think they are something that is extremely useful and should be a part of every person’s life and regimen. I think it is very important to keep one’s digestive tract healthy!

Someone that has an understanding of body systems, especially the digestive system would e the kind of person to definitely use probiotic supplements. They are well-educated. They could live anywhere due to the ease of ordering items online. They and their family are relatively healthier than the general population because they understand what steps to take to maintain a healthy lifestyle and actually take these steps!

Introduction

Hi! My name is Dawn. I am 31 years old and pregnant with my second child. We have a two year old little girl, and are expecting a little boy in the next two months. I teach sixth grade science part time. I am currently working on my doctorate. I feel like my plate is full! In my free time (!) I enjoy reading and scrapbooking. I live in the country and have three dogs, two cats, and five fish.

I found a picture of healthy foods and vitamins as a metaphor for how I uniquely care for my health and well-being as well as that of my family. I try to follow the Specific Carbohydrate Diet and my hubby follows a modified Paleo diet. We take vitamins that are specific for our personal needs. We take vitamins every single day. Our daughter also takes age appropriate vitamins as well.

I am 30 weeks pregnant and have been struggling with varicose veins. I am having to wear thigh high compression hose. I have had a doppler study to check for clots. As a result I am taking a specific vitamin regimen to help with the veins. I drink lots of water as well as make sure I eat (or drink) ample amounts of fruits and vegetables to keep my digestive system functioning properly in an effort to prevent the movement of varicose veins. I choose to do these things for two reasons: 1) the varicose veins hurt and 2) they are ugly. I am unsure of if they are working or how I would feel without them because I do not want to stop and experiment to find out.

I was a little overwhelmed with taking pictures of the products I take every day so I took a picture of all of my products where I store them in the bathroom as well as the bowl I prepare for myself each day. I begin my day with taking 3 Armour thyroid pills. 30 mg each. I took more before I was pregnant and there was actually a disagreement between my ob/gyn and my holistic dr regarding my remaining on them during pregnancy. My holistic dr won and I am so glad! I take a blend called Stress 30. It includes 7 pills and I am copying and pasting the main ingredients from the website. Main Ingredients Vitamin A (from retinyl palmitate) 4,000 IU

I also take 3 Vitamin E, 3 Salmon Oil, 3 Carotenoid Complex, and 6 Vitamin C pills.

If I feel on the edge of getting sick or know that I have been around someone who is sick I add garlic and zinc to my daily supplements until the threat has passed.

I also do a daily protein shake as well as making sure I eat (or drink) the proper amount of fruits and vegetables each day.

Please comment with any questions or specific information that I have missed including. I was beginning to feel like I was writing a book!
